Activities in the surroundind area
Breathtaking landscapes, the sound of the wind, birdsong, the sight of a mountain goat or deer during a walk…Welcome to the Ballon des Vosges Park right in the middle of the “Grand Ventron Nature Reserve”. There are plenty of beautiful sites to visit at your own pace: the Kruth-Wildenstein lake, the high altitude grasslands, the peatlands and the ridge route. A little further you’ll find the Alsatian vineyards with their beautiful, picturesque villages: Riquewihr, Eguisheim, Kayserberg etc. There’s something to be amazed by all year round!
In winter, with the first snowfall, the valley transforms into a huge playground: cross country skiing, snow shoe hiking, sledding and downhill skiing. There’s something for all tastes and all ages. There are snow shoe circuits departing from the hotel with the possibility of renting equipment. The Ermitage Frère Joseph ski resort is 15mins by car. Opposite the hotel, for the pleasure of young and old alike, you’ll find a little ski run for beginners with 2 blue runs and a great sled run.
Regional Natural Park
Designated in 1989, the Ballon des Vosges Natural Park extends across the three former regions of Alsace, Franche-Comté and Lorraine and, more precisely, over the four departments of Haut-Rhin, Haute-Saône, Vosges and the Belfort Territory. At 3,000 km² it is one of the biggest Natural Parks in France. There are 14 summits, the highest being the Grand Ballon in Alsace at an altitude of 1,424m.
This magnificent protected territory offers a rich natural and cultural heritage. As for the natural heritage, it includes a succession of mountain landscapes, high altitude pastures and two treasures: the Grande Crête, with its abundantly wooded hillsides, which forms the Hautes-Vosges; and the Mille Etangs plateau in Franche-Comté. These natural landscapes are essentially composed of high altitude fields, peatlands, lakes and streams, oak, beech and fir tree forests. There is abundant flora and fauna in the mountain range. The most emblematic being: lynx, peregrine falcons, deer, mountain goats, grey wolves whose return has been noted since 2011, cranberries, Vosges pansies, stunning carnations, sundews… and medicinal plants such as arnica.
Man has shaped the Vosgien landscape: water, wood and stone have helped develop manufacturing and craftsmanship, and the number of sawmills, granit quarries, textile factories and sandstone tiles which cover the rooftops are proof of this. As for the cultural heritage, the Park includes 350 “Historical Monument” sites, 2 areas designated “Land of Art and History”, a dozen remarkable villages, themed itineraries such as the ridge route, the Alsace wine route, the cheese route and the Mille Etangs route…
A beautiful country styled dining room with tables and chairs made of solid timber, tea towels on the walls and a spree of chickens… The décor is set for a gastronomic experience which will tickle and delight your taste buds.
In the kitchen, Christelle, “la chef”, will introduce you to a feminine cuisine, full of flavour, and which has been awarded a “Bib Gourmand” by the Michelin Guide since 2012. The set menus (from €16 to €39) change with the seasons. A daily specials board allows you to enjoy more classical dishes.
In the dining room Frédéric, the sommelier, who served at the “Lucas Carton” in Paris for 7 years, will present our wine list with more than 280 wines, the majority of which are from smaller producers. We also have an extensive spirits menu with about 130 labels, including over 50 whiskies.
The restaurant is closed to the public on Tuesdays and Wednesdays (hotel guests accepted)
Our gourmet buffet breakfast, served from 8am to 10am, includes a variety of breads, 4 sorts of home made jams, deli meats, cheese, home made yoghurts, fruit salad, cereals, cheese curd, a wide variety of grains and nuts, fruit juices, eggs etc…
In summer, breakfast can be enjoyed on the terrace.
